About the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians
Established in 1977 as the Hong Kong College of General Practitioners, the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians (HKCFP) has played a central role in developing family medicine as a recognised specialty in Hong Kong. The College supported the establishment of Family Medicine Units at both Hong Kong medical schools and helped integrate family medicine into the undergraduate curriculum as a distinct discipline. In 1993, it became one of the fifteen foundation colleges of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, and it adopted its current name in 1997.
HKCFP has a long-standing record of international engagement, having hosted the WONCA Asia Pacific Regional Conferences in 1987 and 2009, as well as the WONCA World Conference in 1995. In 2027, the College will celebrate its 50th anniversary in conjunction with the WONCA Asia Pacific Regional Conference in Hong Kong. The conference will bring together family physicians, primary care teams, educators, and policymakers to share best practices, present new research, and explore innovative models of accessible, high quality primary care.
Through specialist training, continuing professional development, and advocacy, HKCFP remains committed to advancing primary care standards and strengthening the role of the family doctor in Hong Kong and the wider region.
